These guys have a fully automatic .22 airgun, ~600 fps with round lead balls. That's not much, but in principle more powerful airguns could be made of course - there are ones with the power of a .22LR sold, certain Evanix models.

One of the first airguns ever made in larger batches was a military weapon, with about as much hitting power as a .45 ACP carbine. I'm sure you've all heard of it while you were taught about the Lewis & Clark expedition.

So, if someone can make this semi-toy(no more than 16J or so per ball), someone else could make, for example, a replica Thompson, chambered for .45 projectiles you'd need a backpack air supply to fire, but it could be done. And it'd work, it's early 20th century technology at best..
Anybody seen anything like this before?

Does this system work, or is it marketing bullsh** for the mall ninjas? (I'm talking about the takedown AR15 - not the fitted briefcase)

For those who don't (or can't) watch the video, this shows a system in which the barrel/gas tube is made modular, so the rifle can be broken down and stored in a briefcase in under 60 seconds.
Conversely, you can open the briefcase and assemble the AR in under a minute.

Just make sure you're wearing your shades and fishing vest . . .
