    Vulcan Arms AR15

Anyone familiar with the Vulcan Arms AR15? I came across a used one at a gun shop today. Two things I didn't like about it was it didn't have a forward assist or a bolt dust cover. The clerk also said it has a Colt barrel on it. The price was $575.00. Good deal or not?

Vulcan is widely accepted as crap quality. I don't know from personal experience; I've taken the majority's word for it. Look for DPMS, CMMG, Colt, LMT, RRA, Stag, LaRue, etc.

Many more fish in the sea that don't stink as bad as Vulcan.

They have a HORRIBLE reputation. Do not buy! I saw a pic of one of their AK rifles, with the reciever broken in half!

The decimal point is one space too far to the right. $57.50 is closer to a fair price on a Vulcan, though I'd have offered $45, sales tax included.

I also would not take the clerk's word on the barrel. Even if it is a Colt, anyone stupid enough to put a Colt barrel into a Vulcan receiver is guaranteed to have messed up the job in every way imaginable.

If you want an AR on the cheap, you're better off building your own.

From Del-Ton, you'd be looking at $105 plus S&H plus transfer fee for a stripped lower, and $465 plus extras plus S&H for a kit. Call it $620 total.

Or, $225 plus S&H and transfer fee for a complete lower, and $395 plus S&H for the upper. Call it $670, but then you don't have to mess with about 50 detents, putting the lower together.

I was looking to trade. My Ruger Blackhawk 357 mag with additional 9mm cylinder and Beretta U22 Neos 22/LR. The clerk also wanted $155.00 boot for the Vulcan. I didn't trade.

I went to another gun shop out of town. They had a Bushmaster Varmiter flat top. I don't remember the exact model number but I think it was an XM something? It was used but looked new, the price tag was $1,089.95. They wanted my Ruger and Beretta and $500.00 plus tax. Again, I passed. But, I'm starting to have second thoughts on this offer. Should I go back tomorrow (they're open on Sunday) and get the Bushmaster?

    2 guns + 500 is pretty steep. I think I'd pass, too.

Well, I'd value a used Blackhawk, sight unseen, at $360ish with the 9mm cylinder, and a Beretta Neos at... oh, $200-220 or so. So basically getting $590 for the pair isn't terrible at all.

Personally, though, I don't really care for Bushmaster. But I think $1090 is probably about the going rate for a Varminter in the post-election frenzy.

I'd recommend fondling the Bushmaster a little more before deciding. A lot of people get tired of the heavy barrel ARs pretty quick, when trying to shoot them off-hand. I imagine a 24" Hbar would be very muzzle heavy.

Okay, I get the picture. VULCAN ARMS (a.k.a. HESSE) are the JENNINGS/BRYCO of the AR 15's. Thanks for the replies.

They have a new business name now - can't remember offhand what it is. Ah, wait, found it:

Hesse = Vulcan = Blackthorne = Velocity Firearms

Hesse isn't the only sneaky company to do this.

JoeKen has gone through several company names.

    "Special Weapons" has, too.

Along with Hesse, these complete the "big 3" of "stay the hell away".

    Vulcan....Run Away!!!

I'm one of the unfortunate souls who can speak from experience on this one, stay away from Vulcan!!! You're lucky you heard it here first, I wasn't so lucky and didn't do my research ahead of time, it ended up being a costly mistake and I have to live with the shame my entire life. I had the gun less then three months before selling it, part of that time it was sent back to the company for repairs and another month was spent trying to get rid of the cursed thing.

    Did someone say Hesse?

This is the other picture that Jimmie added the links to earlier. Failed on the 2nd round ever fired from the rifle. I would agree with you, pass on the Hesse.

    Lesson for the Class:

    Cast Lower

Forged is the only way to go IMO!
The worst thing is after round #2, I had the butt stock in my lap, and was looking at the butt end of the carrier with nothing but air between it and my nose. Glad I took my finger off the trigger, and put the "rifle" on safe. I am certain that the bolt carrier in my mouth would leave a mark!

BTW, if you were wondering, this was purchased as a stripped reciever. The ONLY way that Hesse would consider warranty was to ship the entire completed rifle back to them. If they had any brains, they would have accepted the reciever only, replaced it for n/c, and burried the evidence. Sucks to be THEM!
