So true. It's hard to wipe out an entire family with one gun accident as well, unlike when you are sloshed behind the wheel of your H2. I have seen many more alcohol related deaths and injuries than firearm death/injury in my career.

It's a bit left-heavy... the right side, empty of text, I didn't even glance at before the message was delivered.

    The message is good, though.

The logic of your argument is so easily understood that gun control advocates obviously have ulterior motives other than public safety.

I really love these pictoral expositions of the flawed arguments used by gun grabbers. I hope you don't mind that I email them to everyone I know.

    Keep up the good work.

    Excellent work, as usual, Oleg.

I do have to agree with Dionysusigma about it being "left heavy" though.

I'm not nearly creative enough to tell you how to fix it, but I am always willing to offer my opinion on what I think should be fixed!

Oleg, you might try flipping the image of the woman so she is oriented towards the wreck rather than away from it.

Perhaps the wine in the glass should be more visible, so the analogy between the average innocent wine drinker and average innocent gun owner could be more easily drawn.

On the whole though, it is pretty powerful the way it is.

I'm surprised the Gunshow/wine-tasting allegory isn't used. Both are enthusiasts gathering to responsibly enjoy their hobby, one's villified, one isn't.

The drunk-driving comparison leaves an opening for the "but we require drivers licenses!" counterargument.

Most states do require licenses for CCW though. (Alaska being one exception.)

I'm not so sure this makes a convincing argument since I have made that argument to others. The response is usually something like, "Guns are designed to kill, the deaths due to cars is incidental to its designed purpose."

Another response is, "We license car owners and register cars, therefore there should be no opposition to licensing gun ownership and registering every gun." (This is of course a lie since we do not license all car owners or require cars to be registered if not used on public roads. It also does not reflect that driving is a privilege and ownership of arms is a right explicitly protected by our constitution.)

I usually counter by pointing out that while guns are designed to kill, killing is not illegal if done so in defense of self or others. Another, somewhat effective, counter argument is to point out police have guns issued to them, if guns are the problem then the police should be the last people to get guns since they might murder (as opposed to kill, which is defensible under law) someone.

There's an idea... have a poster with "If guns cause murder then police should not have them."

I agree, the right of the pic appears to be an afterthought. But the woman in that picture is truly beautiful.

Yes on the full wine glass.

I think facing left would yield better composition.

ETA: "Facing left", per JustRick's suggestion in post 8.

    Oleg:

    1) I don't know if it *is* real, but the blood on the truck doesn't *look* real

    2) I think this message is a bit muddled in comparison to the gun-free-zones one; lots of people (including me) are in favor of harsher punishment than is currently doled out for drunk driving; I'm know you're not implying in this piece that drunk driving is A-OK, but I think it generates some dissonance, because the object of comparison is complex. The sentence isn't quite parallel, which amplifies this -- you say "trucks of that type," but without setting up anything about trucks.

    3) Plenty of people -- including ones in what I imagine to be your target audience -- mindlessly, reflexively dislike (and enjoy casting blame on) SUVs, trucks, and any non-hybrid vehicle ... they might come at this from the viewpoint that "well maybe we should punish people who threaten others with their giant trucks, especially (but not *only*) if they make it worse by getting drunk."

A Prius crushing a little old lady, now *that* would pull the heart strings

I think it would be worth amending the captions and reversing the right side of the image. I appreciate the suggestions!

I don't have many wreck photos because I avoid accident scenes. Does anyone have images I could use? Also, for another poster, I need a photo of a wreck caused by a deer.

JustRick Yeah, I saw that (your post 8) and I was concurring with it in my brief post 17 --also on the wine glass being full. Thought it was a good idea, so I goofed around trying to see how it would look reversed.

All due credit to you, JustRick!

(I guess maybe Oleg Volk didn't see #8 at first?)
