    "Fashion" advice: Jeans for pocket holster

    Anyone who has used a pocket holster for any length of time knows not all pants (specifically all pants pockets) are created equal. Some are wider than others, some are deeper than others, etc.

    I'm looking for some new jeans, and I'd like to take compatibility with my holster into account. I wondered if anyone had ever paid attention to which of their jeans worked better with their pocket holster and could recommend any brand of jeans over another.

    FYI, I carry a Taurus 85 in a DeSantis Nemesis, if that helps.

    Unless you're doing your shopping by mail-order/Internet, just do what I do:

    Stick your hand into the front pocket of the pants you're considering purchasing, and spread your fingers as wide apart as you can. If the pocket will accomodate your spread hand easily, and your hand goes in past your wristwatch(if wearing one), then it is big enough for a typical 5-shot/2" bbl .38SPL revolver w/pocket holster.

    If you are in fact buying online instead of in person, consider looking at the pants offerings from 5.11, Woolrich, and EOTAC - as they are designed specifically as "tactical" pants or "discreet CCW" pants, they size their pockets specifically to accomodate typical back-up handguns like .38 snubs or mini-Glocks.

    I've found that even jeans of the same brand and line often wind up with pocket changes over the years. Find a pair you like and stock up or shop with your holster!

    I've found the Cabela's brand jeans have very wide and deep pockets. I carry a 642 in either a Mika or Nemesis (both work well in the above mentioned jeans).

    Yesterday the wife wanted to print off some digital photos so we stopped off at my favorite store to hate, Walmart. I figured I'd check out Wrangler jeans prices to kill some time. Wrangler jeans have decent size pockets (not the cowboy fit) and I have a few pair, but they're starting to show some wear. I found that Walmart also carries Wranglers off-shoot brand, Rustler. I tried on a pair, and of course shoved my Mika holster and 642 in the pocket - Perfect fit - for $10. On the way back from the dressing room I saw Faded Glory Original Fit jeans for $8 (!) so I tried on a pair - Another perfect fit for the 642. The jeans are well made and ridiculously inexpensive so I picked up a couple of pair. I'm a 37" waist, so I was planning on buying 38's for IWB holster wear, but these jeans run a bit large so I can wear 36's comfortably. I wore a pair all day today with the 642 on board, and they worked great.

    Carpenter style jeans seem to have deep pockets, and a nice loose fit for IWB, as well.
    If total government control equals safety, why are prisons so dangerous?

    I agree with rdrancher; rustler and faded glory brands fit well. The rustlers and wranglers last a bit longer for me, and I am hard on clothes

    I'll second or third that, whichever way that works. I wear carpenter jeans exclusively and pocket carry a PF-9 whenever I can. My build prevents me from pocket carrying in regular jeans, and I like the room and extra pockets on carpenters anyway, so I made the switch a few years ago. Either way, the front pockets on Wrangler, Rustler and Faded Glory jeans are quite roomy, although I can only speak to the carpenter family.

    On an unrelated note, Faded Glory jeans do not last, at all, one little bit. Wear for a few months, even rotated with several other pairs of pants, and the corners of the pockets and the belt loops pull out of their stitching and make unsightly holes to show everyone your underwear. If you're planning on keeping the Faded Glory jeans for a while, buy some interesting boxers because soon everyone will be seeing them. They're cheap, buy new ones and make sand bags out of the old ones.

    I wear carpenter jeans for the most part as well...I like the relaxed fit and as I normally have 2 guns on the belt plus reloads and a knife pouch I like the side pockets for the cell phone. Of none carpenter jeans I like Lucky's relaxed fit, pocket opening are nice and wide.

    I also would recommend Propper tactical pants. They are a new and upcoming brand that I have and they seem very durable as well as sharp looking.
    Pray for all the Republicans in Congress using Psalms 109:8.
