    1911 age

I picked up a 1911 recently, it has a Remington-Rand slide but everything else, the body/etc. is Colt, fairly nice gun overall despite the wrong slide being on it. Curious as to the age of the gun, seems like a somewhat low serial number: serial number C 245XX

The frame is a commercial Colt from 1916. If you can post of picture of the slide, particularly the left side, it will help narrow down the year on it as well, though it won't be exact.
The sights are always aligned, you are out of alignment.

Thanks. I don't have a camera or else I'd post pics of the gun. What kind of variations were there on the slides?

There were 3 different rollmarks used on Remington Rands. This can help you at least narrow down the year on the slide, but there was some crossover, so it won't be precise.

    Check out this site-
    http://www.coolgunsite.com/

On the left hand menu, go to "ID Pages"
On this page, 1st column, 2nd row is "Markings"
About halfway down the page there are pics of the 3 types of slides and the corresponding serial number ranges. You can cross reference this information with the serial number chart on the same site (On ID Pages) to help find the year.

    Hope this helps.

    Cheers.

Yep, that helps. Looks like a type 3 slide. Thanks.
