30 Carbine Magazine?

Going thru a box of "STUFF" that hasn't seen the light of day in a lot of years and came across a 30 carbine 30 round magazine, used but good shape w/strong spring, no dents, no rust. Only marking is "SEY" on back side an inch up from floor plate.
Who made it and how can we tell its approximate age?

When were they making the magazines, was it on Gov't contract or for after market civilian sales?

Your 30 round Seymour Products magazine is G.I. surplus and was produced during WWII when the M2 carbine was introduced or during the Korean War.

Thanks for the information. I don't know when or where I got it, probably in a trade for something. I don't and never have owned an M1 Carbine. Never can tell!!!!

These are the codes for the sub-contractors that manufactured 15 and 30 round M1 carbine magazines for the prime contractors that produced the carbines.
U-Union Hardware.
I-International Silver.

SP-Seymour Products(15 rd. mags).
K-Keller Brass.
OI-Owens Illinois Can Co.
B-Bridgeport Metal Goods Co.
L-M.S. Little Co.
WEP-Wade Electrical Products.
SS-Seymour Smith & Son.
Upside down "T" within a "C"-J.L. Clark Mfg. Company.
OKAY- OKAY Industries(post WWII mags).

There will usually be the prime contractor's code, for whom the magazines were made, following the sub-contractor's code.
I-Inland.
B-IBM.
U-Underwood.
W-Winchester.
SG-Saginaw Gear, Saginaw, MI.
S'G'-Saginaw Gear, Grand Rapids, MI.
IP-Irwin Pederson.
NPM-National Postal Meter.
QH-Quality Hardware.

If a magazine is stamped IW, it indicates it was made by International Silver for Winchester. If the magazine is stamped II, it was made by International Silver for Inland. If the magazine is marked UU, it was made by Union Hardware for Underwood. And so on. Some sub-contractor codes are the same as prime contractor codes.

I don't and never have owned an M1 Carbine.

Obviously you need to get one to go with that mag! They are quite fun to shoot, IMHO.

I've been around them and fired and reloaded for them, just never owned one of my own. I have wanted a Marlin Model 62 in 30 Carb. and in 256 Winchester, but never had the where with all when I did find one.
So it goes moving west!!!!!!
