Smith and Wesson M&PL 9mmNATO/safety

Howdy;
Do any members here know if S&W can retro fit a ambi-safety to a M&P model L/long slide type 9mmNATO pistol?
I saw a L model w/o the new ambi safety but would prefer a safety for duty/protection use. I'd think a trained gunsmith or S&W could do it but I'm not sure.

Since the main differences between the 9L and regular M&P 9mm are in the barrel and slide, and since S&W offers the thumb safety as an option on the M&P9, I'm pretty sure they would add one to your 9L for a nominal fee.
