    Scottish Pistols

Here are two I bought in the 70s, fired a few times and put away. I just took them out to clean and handle.

That is a belt or sash hook on the back but I have never used it. Not much too grip and the ball triger allows only one finger to actually hold the stock. A big hole in the muzzle of the 9" smooth bored barrel!

58 caliber and I believe I used a PRB over 50 grains of fffG.
I prefer not to shoot cartridges younger than I am!

I really don't think you would see an auto loader on this Blackpowder Shooting forum, do you?

I love those pistols. How lucky you are to own two!

Those are some cool looking guns. Dual function too, when discharged can use as a club! Probably works better as a club too!

drftrman, yep....club after firing was the norm. Notice that most, if not all, period military pistols had 'skull crusher' caps on the butt. I think they were aptly named.

    And, welcome to THR.

Do you know any history behind these pistols? They are nice looking and appear to be in great condition. You are a lucky man to have them. The protrusions on the bottom to the rear of the trigger looks to me like they could be attached to a lanyard to prevent loosing the pistols in battle. At least that is what it looks like to me.

Not much history to these pistols. I got them in the mid 70s and believe they were built about then. They are Italian replicas and were sold as "Black Watch" pistols. I have not seen them for quite some time so they have probaly been discontinued. Not sure about the lanyard idea but they would work well as a club if grabbed by the barrel.

I ahve seen origianl all metal pistols and most were indeed from Scotland. None were as plain as these but I would like to think these are replicas of something original. Perhaps not.
