Subject: December High Power Rifle "Fun Match" - Saturday 12/18

    Greetings;

The next monthly High Power Rifle Fun Match is scheduled for Saturday, December 18 at Fairfax Rod and Gun Club. The match bulletin is attached.

Be advised that beginning with this match and forever after we will be using scoring system B - see below and the attachment for an example of scoring system B.

We experienced some issues at our last match with very slow pit service. Slow pit service will often break the concentration of the competitor on the firing line as well as delaying the match. If you are a new shooter and have never worked in the pits or if you have worked in the pits and you feel that you would benefit from some instruction and guidance, please arrive at the range by 0800 for a brief pit duty orientation.

Match registration begins at 8:15, squadding at 8:30, pits seal at 8:45, first shot at 9:00. Entry fee is $10, exact change is appreciated. Bring a stapler for hanging targets.

See you on the firing line,
    Alan Willard

This was the best I could do today.

16° at the start of the match.
After the first shot, I don't think I actually felt the trigger break for the rest of the match.

Thought I had dope for this ammo.
Recorded the dope when it was around 50°.

Had to crank-on an extra 2.5 MOA over what I thought was the right dope.
First shot for record offhand is a 10.
    Always a bad omen.
All-over out the bottom for the next ten shots or so.
After hosing quite a few shots, I finally convinced myself it really WAS the sight adjustment that was causing all those low shots. Second offhand string was quite acceptable by my standards and ability.

Once I got the elevation issue resolved, and considering conditions, I'm pretty satisfied.

Hope to see more of you at the January match.

Haven't been back to Fairfax rod & gun since I was sent packin' in 1984. It was a black powder shoot. I got there a lil on the early side and was on the line shooting a lil before the match.
It's was also NRA sponsored & they were there.

I go up to sign up and the guy(BIG fat man) asked what I would be shooting. I said my Maynard War of Northern Aggression carbine that he saw me practicing with. He announces it loud enough for all to hear: "That gun does not qualify!" I asked him why and he said it wasn't a self contained cartridge.
I asked where in the rule did it say that and even the guy from the NRA said it was OK. Fat man said "NO!" The NRA guy asked why and someone over my shoulder said. The Fat guy watched the kid shoot w/ that old gun and he never missed. Good reason to throw him out.
The guy from the NRA said he was sorry and he'd pass along what happened.
Those of us from the other side of the tracks back then knew FRG was all the Lawyer, Doctors & Bears Oh My!!
Is it still that way out there?

I think I went there once for "the other" website's meet and found out it was canceled. Oh well. At least I met with John Shirley the next day in Alexandria.
