I actually got out to the range today to fire my Marlin Golden 39A Mountie. At the upper free-form range there was a grandfather mentoring his grandkids on .22 rifle and pistol on one end, a group of men shooting big game rifle and pistols on the other end, and another solo shooter who brought a .45 and a couple of ARs.

I chased golf balls about the range until they disappeared into the grass past the 60 yard mark. Set up paper targets at 25 yards. Got a one hole 5 shot group with a better grade of Federal long rifle. Fired mixed magazines of high vel hollowpoint (5 Fed 5 Win and 5 Rem) ignoring variation in wind still got average 1" groups. Fired some old Winchester high velocity .22 short almost the same POI as the LR at 25 yards. Then fired a string of .22 CB Long; wearing hearing protection I had to watch for bullet impacts to be sure the CBs had fired. Slightly lower POI than the LR.

Very versatile rifle, accurate, reliable, and perfect excuse to get out of the house after a long winter's coop.

That's beautiful, Carl. Just like the Mountie owned by my buddy Cliff. I had the Golden 39A with the pistol grip. We shot at least a billion rounds together.

Mine has a Weaver 3-9. What's on top of yours?

I posted pictures of mine, Marlin Golden 39A, on another thread with some other guns at my range and no one replied to it. It was on this new, GRM forum. I do not think that I got one reply here, if my memory serves me right. Oh well.

I put some up on the Marlin Owners forum way back when too. They replied to the thread.

Nema had a good thread going and he belongs to the M.O. forum but I don't know how much he posts on there now or at the 'other place'.

If I can find my old pictures, I may put them up again. My husband is the one who helped me do this since I don't have a 'photo place' where I keep my pictures online. He has them on his laptop.

I did give my two Marlin Golden 39A's and my Marlin 336C in 30-30 to my husband 'officially' but I still shoot them on and off. GREAT Made in CT rifles.

Since Marlin went down the tubes and since they closed up their CT factory - I/we have not been shooting them as much but we still shoot them.

We have 3 Henry lever action rifles in this house now and I hope that Henry continues on with making great rifles. I shoot them the most now.

So I still LOVE the Marlin Golden 39A and 336C in 30-30. My husband still loves his Made in CT MARLIN rifles and his 45-70 but we are not happy on how they are made now. He has shot Marlin rifles since he was a KID too.

Take care and good shooting to all of you Marlin 39 lovers out there!

    Research & Salvage Operation

I have spent a couple of hours researching the disposition of the original Marlin 39 Club thread.

The posts prior to 15 Nov 2008 are not available, but I was able to salvage the posts after that date.

Please see this thread for the restored posts.

I will also tag the first post in this thread with that link.

I hope this helps restore a valued community asset.

I've got a 39M, just the right length I think. I put a receiver sight and a short front bead on it. It's funny, I have a lot of .22's, but that gun is the one I always grab when I need a .22. It always seems to hit no matter what.

    birth gift

i bought my grandson a golden 39a the year he was born.
of course i kept it for him till he was 14 before i let him shoot it.
now he's in college and i keep it for him till he graduates.
lots of folks buy savings bonds ans such for their kids when they are born. i felt a good .22 would be better.

he asked why i picked that rifle. i explained after im gone he may have to put food on the table. and the manual operated rifles can shoot any .22 amo exept the magnum.
its a tack driver and looks like new. also i told him he will never have to guess at how old it is. its the same age as him.
we shoot together when he's home from college. he has young eyes and can out shoot me now....the gift that keeps giving.
