Could anti-gun Chicago politicians loose their clout in Ill.?

Take a look at this article:

    http://online.wsj.com/article/SB1000...WhatsNewsThird

With the decline in the population of Chicago could their anti-gun politicians loose enough clout in the Illinois legislature and thus make it possible for more gun friendly legislation there possible?

I live in Alabama and don't know. If anyone here is from Illinois please tell us what you think.

    Take Care

Doubtful, they would just vote the graveyards.
If total government control equals safety, why are prisons so dangerous?

Probably. There definitely is hope, but it's an uphill battle.

There will be some clout lost when daley retires in a few months. Emmanuel will step into his shoes as a gun-hater but it still takes a lot of time to build those networks and relationships. Favors are the way things are done in Illinois and you've got to build them like a bank... loans are possible but limited.

    "lose"

The public's attitude in IL is enabling the politicians to play these games, combined with a well-known corrupt election tradition. It will take more than a few political swap-outs to make major changes.

You would probably have to get enough evidence at once to arrest the entire upper echelon, and replace with a coalition from any IL city BUT Chicago.

You have far more hope for the future than I. The corruption in Chicago runs far too deep and has invaded most of the rest of the State of Illinois. What frightens me most is that a Daley inspired democrat now sits in the White House. May God protect our nation.

Slightly OT, but "His honor" wants to keep working against guns even after he leaves office.

It would be best for all concerned if he were to leave office and then get fitted for his orange jumpsuit right away.

I'm sure ex-Governor Ryan could use the company.

Fixed it for you. Brady won 99 of 102 counties and lost the election to Quinn. Guess which big county came out for Quinn?

    Example:
-When a mall security guard refers to a shoplifter he'll use some official sounding word like "perpetrator" (e.g. I then pursued the perpetrator in a north by northwesterly direction.)

-When a cop refers to a shoplifter he'll use an industry term such as "that stupid bastard" (e.g. I had to chase that stupid bastard through the parking lot.)

kermit315, if the first box (ballot) has failed, then these heroes of Illinois may now move on to the other two boxes (soap, cartridge) as needed.

They might wander into the voting booth every few years, but do they really care enough to bite the hand that feeds?

what do you expect from Chicago....like I said, the problem stems from there. 99 of 102 went red last time, quinn won cook, adams ( I believe, going from memory) and a county down by E St Louis. So, 3 counties are deciding how the other 99 do business. The membership in the assembly and the house come from those same demographics. That is why it is so hard to do anything in Illinois. Not to mention, if madigan doesnt like something, he just refuses to call it to the floor for a vote, and it dies. 1 man controls that.

That being said, there are some rumblings that carry could very realistically happen this year, as well as a few other things. There are at least 2 cases in the pipe against FOID right now, and if those dont go the way we want them to, the way things are going, we should be able to get rid of FOID also.

Things are (hopefully) changing in Illinois, but change comes slowly, especially when you are dealing with the type and amount of corruption in chicago.

WRT Chicago and Illinois, Todd Vandermyde, the NRA's Springfield lobbyist, has a very interesting report here. It's worth a read.

Read the comments to this article about Chicago's Daley's recent remarks on proposed concealed carry in Illinois.

    http://www.wbez.org/story/concealed-...rry-law-84712#

Tom Arnold, "Daley bashes Illinois' proposed concealed carry law", WBEZ Chicago Public Media, 4 Apr 2011.

The comments sound like anti-gun politics has some loud opposition.

follow up: another story from the Ill state

Follow the link, for the comments from readers are the real pay off.

    http://www.pjstar.com/free/x81685217...transport-guns

Associated Press, "Ill. court allows nonresidents to transport guns", Peoria Journal Star, 7 Apr 2011.

My summary: In the case of People v. Holmes, in May 2005 Holmes from Indiana traveled into Illinois with a pistol in the armrest of his car. He had a valid Indiana carry permit. He was charged with felony violation for (a) no Illinois FOID and (b) gun not in case. In 2011, the Illinois Supreme Court ruled that Holmes' Indiana concealed carry permit served as a legal substitute for an Illinois FOID, and the closed backseat armrest served as a legal substitute for a gun case.

Again, follow the link, for the comments from readers are the real pay off.

    SIDEBAR

I noticed the Illinois case was styled People v. Holmes a citation style also used in New York, IIRC. You look at Tennessee State cases, eg Tennessee v. Garner, you quickly realize that in New York and Illinois, they have become accustomed to mentally substitute the concept State for the word People whereas most of us substitute Citizens for the word People. Perhaps this linguistic conditioning is responsible for the inability of Illinois and New York to read the Second Amendment "the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed" and comprehend that the people are the citizens, not the state. George Orwell was right in his theory about Newspeak in Nineteen Eighty-Four: control of the language used to express political ideas means control of politics and the control of people.

While being encouraged is a wonderful feeling, keep in mind you are considering Chicago democrats and the state of Illinois. One of the ancients in Kentucky I cared for had a phrase he would repeat at the drop of a hat that is very apt on the subject. "Things will change in heaven but they never change in hell."

Think positive.Your neighboring state is finally making some real RKBA progress.99 out 102 counties cannot be denied forever.

I'm an optimist. The rest and best of Illinois is on the way to freedom from Chicago.Remember, you read it here first.

Yes he was, many times I've been blessed with the company of wise people. He didn't deserve to die as he did. As for the other... I was a foster child in the city of Chicago... On second thought, never mind.

GO, AND REFORM--OR, MARK MY WORDS--SOME DAY, FOR YOUR SINS YOU WILL DIE AND GO TO HELL OR CHICAGO--TRY AND MAKE IT THE FORMER.

    You don't get it.

We get that. But the rest of Illinois doesn't want dictators.99 out 102 counties recently said that.

    Do you get that?

I get that, it's very clear. Unfortunately, those... people... want to export their preferences to areas that do not like dictators. I'm told that a few years ago the city of Chicago demanded that Whiting Indiana demand to see ID before the sale of gasoline and if the customer was from Cook county a copy of the sales receipt sent to the city.

no, they will remain like they have been...

that is how hegemony works, ideological conditioning and repression (according to Louis Althusser)

the anti-gun notions that they believe now will not be altered through reason but will continue to be further perpetuated by those in charge in Chicago...

the top dogs such as Daley, Emanuel, and Gov. Quinn will spread the propaganda from Brady and the such
    - an ideological structure with many layers exists with a great deal of reasons why guns should be completely removed from society... (we all know them)

and then we have the laws and the enforcement of them (despite being unconstitutional in my understanding) which is the act of repression

when you get people to accept the law and the enforcment of it (even if it is unconstitutional) you have a hegemonic superstructure that is legitmate and socially acceptable becuase it is a cultural norm in Illinois..

changing the "norm" is a daunting task. not only do we have to logically explain our side but we must strip away the vainer of conditioned thought that exists in Cook county regarding guns.
the problem is that these norms have existed for so long that those in charge believe them.... to some extent

a lot of our reps and senators in Springfiled acctually believe the propaganda....
at one point it was an attempt to control violence but despite its failure it continues to be on the books.
no longer is it a means of control; it has evolved into normalcy that is going to be an immense struggle to alter

(thats my semi-intellectual look at gun control in Illinois through the lens of a Communist's theory of how the Capitalists control the working class...
... see, commies are good for something)

so, being from Illinois, in regards to what i said earlier...

the minds of Cook County have been firmly made and will not change.
and being from Illinios, i have no idea what to do besides move, and i wont be moving for a good long time

population diversity means little, Chicago is run by the machine
Springfield recently changed the "rules" for Rahm Emanuel...

that is the kind of state Illinois is
Freedom is the sure possession of those alone who have the courage to defend it.
