ATF - shotgun 'study' and multi-rifle sales

ATF is still at it. Today they released a new comment period on their scheme to register multiple rifle sales.

If you haven't already done so, please take the time to comment on their shotgun study. This is their redefining of what 'sporting purposes' is so they can ban imports of shotguns. We have only until May 1st.

    Here are some suggested comments

The new rifle registration posting in the federal register is at http://www.gpo.gov/fdsys/pkg/FR-2011...2011-10355.pdf

Here are some suggested comments. The comment period is 30 days.

    Comment period extended?

The link in the OP opens Federal Register Vol 76 No. 83 dated today, 4/29/11.

The purpose of this notice is to allow for an additional 30 days for public comment until May 31, 2011. This process is conducted in accordance with 5CFR 1320.10. To insure that comments on the information collection are received, OMB recommends that written comments be faxed 202-395-7285, or e-mailed to oira_submission@omb.eop.gov . All comments should be identified with the OMB control number (1140-NEW). Also include the DOJ docket number found in brackets in the heading of this document.
There is no DOJ docket number in the heading of the document, but be sure to reference the OMB Control Number 1140-NEW or your comments may be discarded.

It appears that May 31, 2011 is the new deadline date.

    NOTE:
Go read the Federal Register in the link.
THEY WANT COMMENTS IN A CERTAIN FORMAT,
    REFERENCING 4 PARTICULAR POINTS.
Any and all comments can be put in one of those
    four comment points.
They aren't trying to silence you,
but they are a large federal burearocracy.
If you don't do it in that 4-point format,
they are likely to consider you non-responsive.

Ants - don't use 1140-new. OIRA at OMB doesn't have it posted yet, that's the default number. Once the referring number & supporting doc is available I'll update the suggested comments. They're not necessary for the comments to be counted. We FOIAd the first rifle comment period and they take all manner of comments regardless of how on point they are.

Trust me... I saw some real beauties ...

You stand the most chance of changing the hearts and minds by making cogent, relevant points against implementing this plan, but even a simple no helps... just not as much.

Please feel free to echo these comments anywhere and to as many concerned gun owners as possible. If you're a member of a gun rights group, please get them engaged too.
