How difficult to buy M-16 pieces and assemble yourself?

I have about half of an M-16 rifle--I am missing the stock, pistol grip, triggerguard and trigger, and sling. Maybe some internal pieces, not sure.

How tough would it be to buy the missing peices and reassemble the entire m-16 so that it works?

How much would it cost? How would you suggest approaching this?

I'd approach it by first finding out if you have an actual M-16 or if it's really an AR-15. If it's truly an M-16 you have to determine its legality. I'll leave that topic to those more knowledgeable about NFA regs than I.

M-16 replicas are pretty popular and the parts you list are relatively easy to find. If you want the real parts, those will cost you more than replica parts.

www.retroblackrifle.com is a good source of information. So is the retro forum on ar15.com and the forum members are friendly. (the rest of ar15.com... not so much)

It's not difficult to replace any AR-variety parts or build one from scratch, with the exception of the barrel. Assembling the barrel takes some special tools and extra care.

Exceedingly difficult. The manufacture and sale of M16 rifles is controlled under the National Firearms Act.

    How much would it cost?
    Many thousands of dollars.

How would you suggest approaching this?
Find a lawyer familiar with the transfer of NFA items, be prepared to write a very large check.

How easy is it? Totally easy.

Just as you learned in your other thread,
    it isn't hard at all.

    AR15 parts are everywhere.

The AR16/M16 design splits into two main pieces: Upper and Lower.

    You have the complete upper.
    You need the complete lower.
    A few hundred dollars.
    They are everywhere.
    Best of luck.

Just to close this thread, I was able to assemble (or rather I had assembled for me) a lower receiver and now my rifle works like a dream--I mean it is SO NICE!, I love this gun, it is now my favorite. I have a pic in this thread:

AR type rifle's are the grown up version of lego's. They are a blast to build and shoot.

Oleg, please fix the hyperlink styles. I kept looking at this post and assumed he just forgot to actually explain or that he had edited out the explanation. Only after, a few posts down, it was mentioned that there was another thread did I realize that there was probably a link in the statement above. I went back to the post quoted above and mineswept for the link.

And how about that whole locking threads with no activity for more than 90 days. It was near the top of the forum threads so I didn't realize the whole topic was over a year old.

There's no need for thread locking.

Someone might have something valuable to add to a thread.

As far as "thread near the top", well, you need to invite your friends, and they need to invite their friends, so we can get some action going here

I don't have friends. And if I had friends, they wouldn't have friends. You'll have to invite a few more of yours.
