I've got a Ruger MKII with the 6-3/4" barrel and a scope,

it's my only 50 yard pistol.

High Standards are nice, too, but they're getting pricey...

Get your hands on a pre-war Colt Woodsman and you'll know what a .22 pistol is supposed to be.

Funny, they look a lot like my Hi-Standard 102...

I just handled one of the new Browning 1911-22's a few days ago at the gun store. WOW!

I have no idea if it's accurate, reliable or has a 22 pound trigger, but it sure feels good in the hand. At $599, I think it's ridiculously overpriced, but it still took all my self control not to throw down a credit card and walk out with it. It's 85% the size of a full sized 1911. The slide and frame are both aluminum. The weight, the balance, the size are just perfect for a .22.

I want one. How to convince the wife I need one...?

Maybe Springfield or somebody else will come out with a reasonably priced clone?

Ever shot a stadard M1911 with the all-steel Colt Service Ace conversion kit?

The Browning Buckmark gets my vote.

While I love the High Standard, it can be very finicky with its magazines. I would have to say a 1911A1 frame fitted with the Marvel .22 conversion has to be the most accurate and reliable in my experience.

Ten days after my 21st birthday I took possession of a truly ancient Woodsman. It served me very well until I moved back to Indiana at which time my father "borrowed' it. Someday I hope to see it again.

I've never found a reason to move away from my Ruger Mark I Target.

IDK if I'll ever find a better pistol to mount a scope

on than the Ruger MK III. The Nambu-style slide

puts the scope on the frame as close to the

    eye as possible.

No. I've got a Ciener kit and I like it, but the thing about this new Browning .22 is that the reduced size makes it a whole new pistol. It feels like an old colt 1903, perhaps. I like!

Pick one up and hold it down at the LGS and you'll see what I mean.

I'll give the Browning a try, but I like a gun that fills my hand and has a little weight to it.

I covet one of those, but have you checked the price?
S&W still makes them, and they sell new for $1179
    Used on Gunbroker, $800 +

So, I have a nice Ruger MK II in stainless (with the heel release)
Fun to shoot. Shoots Mini-Mags like crazy.
I kinda want a Ruger 22-45 with the threaded barrel in case I go crazy and add a Yankee Hill suppressor after dancing with the ATF for 6 months.
