As the resident Olde Pharte (even then!) they asked me if I could recover the data.
Once more, let the record reflect I made no comment. At least you aren't a a disgusting overactive OMB that interfaces step motors on a mill saddle, knee and table to a odious antique called a trs80!

I had a TRS80, a TI 994a, I still have two Apples (2e and 2g), and many of the older machines.

A couple of years ago I donated this puppy, a Xerox PC, to the Xerox museum. Had a 300/1200 baud modem in it! Wow! 1200 Baud! Aaaaand... aaaand, mind you, one of the first LCD B&W monitors! Well, G&DG monitors. Grey and Darker Grey.

In the words of Ben Stein... "Woooowww."

They paid for the packing and shipping. Of course.

Where were you in 2001 when we were desperately looking for someone stupid savvy enough to buy the IBM sys 3 than was bought at an auction.

Anybody remember Victor, and VictorCalc? How about ReportManager?

I threatened my IT manager this week, that I would throw a thermite grenade in his server room, and replace his group with temporaries with $10 calculators. One would be designated to make two runs a day to Staples for more paper.

The task he was assigned then got completed sooner than originally projected.

He knows I am old enough that I do know how to do it without a computer.

    ISP - Terry's Comments

A LOT of places in this country even in Western Montana college towns not just in farm/lake or east coast states (Great Lakes region and in New England.) do not have DSL or CABLE. It isn't just because you may live way up in the mountains or in some super remote area with any type of terrain.

You have dial up, if you can get a land line, a cellular telephone - most places that I go to out west up NORTH and elsewhere in MT have NO reception for cellular telephones, and/or a satellite type of ISP system. You don't even have to be far from the city to have NO reception. That goes for OTA television reception even in the city - college town!

    Terry, thanks for the information.

    Take care!

Aw, come on Cate, we have DSL in Mississippi!

(As long as you live in town. Outside of town, you might as well be in Montana, except for the weather, which is much more pleasant :-) )

    Paul,

I live IN town now, in Missoula - 01 zipcode. I am barely, barely out of the 08 and 04 zipcodes due to the river (River Road - I do NOT live ON River Road but close to it.) and I am on the OTHER side of Reserve Street, in a small, new subdivision, in a very MODERN - not the style of the house, prewired, super insulated, small house, close to the river, there is a NO build zone - many acres behind me = behind my back yard, a small cattle ranch on several acres = 2 lots to the east from me = a fence divides us and those 2 building lots and Century Link telephone company which was QWEST can not give us DSL even though they would like to 'sell' it to us. NO kidding. I could 'try' to get dial up but it would be through MSN with CL. NO luck with Blackfoot dial up here either.

I could NOT get DSL at the brand new apartment not that many miles from here either. NO kidding.

So I had cable for my ISP there and I had to go to cable here for my ISP. I gave up on the wireless - in the air ISP deal due to their business policies.

The dial up ISP that I wanted with Blackfoot telephone did not work with Century Link telephone and Blackfoot could not give me DSL either.

They ran TESTS many times at the brand new apartment and it was a NO GO for DSL. They ran tests here too.

Complaints were made to all concerned in the past and to the places that serve us OFF of River Road here. This is all over Missoula - some places you have NO problem getting DSL but in other places - you do. Same as in parts of Maine, up state NY, in the Great Lakes region, other western states, etc.

Tall Pine and I have discussed this many times about MT isp and telephone companies too! Poor man and he had to hear me complain about this issue.

You can't even get all OTA television stations here ALL OVER TOWN either with a new tv or a old one with a government box due to the LOCATION of the towers. Plus here in the valley - if you are too close to the mountains - it is a NO GO or only one station from the U of M and/or Kpax or Keci. I do not have and did not get a conversion government box for a boob tube. I have a new portable television and a OTA small RCA antenna connected to it inside of my house.

I had better dial up and telephone service in the Sapphire Mountains once I got into the little log cabin. I had better dial up in the farm/lake region. I could not get DSL in the mountains here or in my former state when I lived there with United Telephone that later went to Sprint. It is some other company now.

The companies make cheap, too many connection 'nodes' or some such names with telephone lines now and the connection is not the same as the old copper (?) lines in many places in THIS town and across the country.

I can't EXPLAIN it and the companies who ran tests against each other company, here in town, told me about the 'connection' problems and unreliabilty issues. Each company blamed the other one. Plus CL said I could NOT get DSL since it was unavailable in my area even though I am in a very convenient location. In other subdivisions - older and newer ones - you have the same issues - it depends on your specific location. Just like in farm country, township lines, can give you another landline telephone company and then you have LONG DISTANCE charges.

    Take care.

Sorry for your situation in Montana, Catherine -- both the DSL and the crappy weather!

I live outside of town, but close enough for things like cable and DSL. A couple miles further and I would be SOL......

    Smile

    Paul,

Thanks. I do like the cable for our ISP - it is super fast with Optimum.

Regarding the weather... I still shoot in the COLD and snow/ice. It depends on my mood and hands - sometimes I still shoot on a 'bad hand day'. My husband, Montana Man, shoots no matter what as I 'used to do'.

Back in my former state, you remember my old club out in the boonies, close to W. County and not the one that I visited close to the lake or by the airport, the wind was much, much worse than here in the valley.

I do envy some of your good weather on some days. Enjoy your sunshine and heat.

Side note: I LOVE my Henry Golden Boy in .22lr rifle and Montana Man, my husband, loves his Henry Big Boy in 357Magnum/38Special too!

    Blessings to you and yours,

    Cate

Oh, about two months ago I finally got DSL... I decided to try 1.5 MB to see if it was adequate. It was, 'til my machine got loaded with spyware and lugs down to transmit all my love letter keystrokes and to link in to the Russian and Chinese supercomputer setups. Did not have that problem with my 28.8K dial 'em up. Like they didn't want to bother with me 'cause my 28.8K transmission rate lugged down their supercomputers and love letter keystroke loggers. Ha-ha!

I gotta get some decent spyware killers, though.

Did you forget to set up a firewall?

Also, if you're a bad browser, get something like Avast. I have just the free version and it lighted up my screen like a christmas tree when I just selected a malware file..

Nothing is 100% secure though.. especially against novel spyware and viruses.
