    Bought a Mauser P38 today!

I was at my local shop today and walked out with a Mauser P38!

I've been wanting a P38 for a while now to add to my WW2 collection but until today I haven't found the one I wanted. This is a BYF-43 with all matching numbers and original holster. The story goes that the guy who brought it into the shop got it from his father who brought it back during WW2. The guy also said that he has the capture paper for this gun somewhere and once he finds he'll make sure whoever buys the gun gets that as well. I paid $525 so I think I did pretty well especially with the holster and hopefully (fingers crossed) the capture paperwork.

    Great photos! :-)
And what's the stuff carved into the holster?

byf 43 means assembled in '43?

Imo, the gun would've been much more popular had they used a double-stack magazine. I almost bought the P1, refurbished ones were being sold for $250 here.. but changed my mind at the last minute and bought a Sig 226 knockoff for the same price.

So I got a call from the gun shop today and they informed me that the seller of this P38 had located the paperwork and had dropped it off! Needless to say I was pretty much out the door two minutes after getting off the phone.
