Cool Mantis Folding Knife.

I recently misplaced my longtime Remington folding knife.After looking for days I've temporarily given up. At the same time a blurb for a Mantis knife called the Tough Tony appeared in Guns Magazine.

It looked very hip, so I ordered and it came yesterday. I am very happy with this purchase.Weighs 5 oz with a belt clip. Florida being a CCW state, the knife is covered by the permit.

It's illegal to shoot buffalo from street cars here in Houston, too.

Neither law is enforced (even if it's actually in place [ handgunlaw.us isn't known for 100% accuracy ]).

Matter of fact, if that is an actual city ordinance, I daresay if they enforced it, they'd lose ¾ of their employees.

Here is an interesting discussion from Florida Concealed Carry. The first post is from an attorney. It seems the problem is the definition of "common pocket knife" in Florida. And Open Carry is possible:

With a concealed carry license you may carry a knife with any size blade concealed. Without a license you can carry a "common pocket knife." If you don't have a concealed carry license, there is some case law to suggest that a common pocket knife with a 4" blade knife blade may be carried concealed but there is no length rule under statute.

The problem with carrying a knife concealed without a license is that the term "common pocket knife" is a vague term. Gutmacher's book covers this very well and I recommend it to you. The other members are correct, without a license you can carry a knife via open carry. The only issue is common sense, i.e. you may not want to walk onto a public conveyance, such as a bus or train with a large machette in your hand. Might upset other passengers and get you caught up with a response from law enforcement officers. The other problem that could occur with carrying open is the brandishing laws that prohibit brandishing a knife in a threatening or careless way. Keeping it sheathed and on your belt etc would be a smart way to carry open rather than holding it in your hand as you carry.

I don't think you can! And to make it better for me, my youngest son is named Antonio, but has been called Tony since he was a baby.

I saw him a few hours ago, as he returned exhausted from a several hours long security flight to Havana and back.When I showed him "Tony",it was very difficult to get it back out of his hands! I suppose I'll have to buy another one.

So Steel, between us we are helping to sweep the TT wave across the country! That seems very cool to me.

I just got through looking at the Mantis product site. They offer some unique styles for pretty descent prices.. Steels used are AUS 8 / 420HC / 400 stainless steel.

I think they are going to continue to catch on in the market.

Chapter II - Article XII - Section 2-411

Weapon means a firearm, explosive device, club, knife or other offensive or defensive instrument as more particularly defined by regulation of the mayor under this article.

Sec. 2-415. - Weapons on city premises.

(a)

The mayor is authorized to establish regulations consistent with applicable state and federal laws relating to the possession of certain weapons upon city premises.

(b)

Signage consistent with applicable state and federal laws to advise persons of Texas Penal Code provisions relating to the possession of certain weapons on specified city premises may be posted upon those city premises, and copies of such provisions made available for inspection upon each premises to which they pertain and in the office of the city secretary.

(c)

Compliance with regulations promulgated under this section is a condition of the entry upon and use of each premises to which they are applicable.

(d)

All employees and contract security personnel of the city are authorized for and on behalf of the city to notify any person who fails to comply with any regulation promulgated under this section to depart from the applicable city premises.

(e)

Any person who enters or remains on city premises after written notice not to enter or verbal notice to depart as required by section 30.05 of the Texas Penal Code shall be subject to prosecution under section 30.05 of the Texas Penal Code for criminal trespass in addition to prosecution for any other crime that he may have committed.

(f)

Any person who carries a prohibited weapon, including a handgun licensed under subchapter H, chapter 411 of the Texas Government Code, on city premises prohibited by sections 46.03 and 46.035 of the Texas Penal Code shall be subject to prosecution under sections and 46.03 and 46.035(c) of the Texas Penal Code.

The posted code does not prohibit pocket knives. It prohibits "illegal knives" as defined in PC 46.02

(6) "Illegal knife" means a:
(A) knife with a blade over five and one-half inches;
(B) hand instrument designed to cut or stab another by being thrown;
(C) dagger, including but not limited to a dirk, stiletto, and poniard;
(D) bowie knife;
(E) sword; or
(F) spear.

Pocket knives are not illegal in or on city of Houston property.

I'm still just blown away by the fact that Bowie Knives (of all things) are prohibited in Texas (of all places)!!

And I'm aware that there is no hard-and-fast definition of a Bowie Knife. But for Texans to ban them, well, heck--Have the pineapple declared a noxious weed in Hawaii, call the Wisconsin badger a public nuisance--Gee Whillikers!!

As of 2007, they're not as "prohibited" as they once were.

The Motorist Protection Act (TX) of 2007 allows a non-licensed (CHL) citizen to carry a handgun, or any other "illegal weapon" in a motor vehicle under their control. This includes Bowie knives and switchblades.
