    Hi-Point 995 Carbine

I've had mine for at least a decade (Mine is one of the originals).

I first wanted one after a review of it and the Ruger PC-9 (before the ghost ring style sights were added to the Ruger) and the Hi-point gave it a good drubbing down range performance wise.

Something that at the time cost $219.00 (what I remember paying for mine) winning in an accuracy shoot out with a $400-$500.00 carbine (PC-9).

While those that say it is "too cheap and ugly to be worth anything" should try one before judging it based on looks and price alone.

Mine has ran with just about any type of ammo I have put through it (I haven't tried the wolf steel cased stuff or shotshells, due to respect for the weapon) It will work well with all other types of ammo (brass and aluminum cased).

It is a light weight, reliable, and accurate firearm that is hard to beat in my opinion.

I like the 995 so much that I'm going to be picking 2-3 more later on.

I had one, bought it back in '97 or '98. It sat from at least '99 to 2011 when I sold it for about what I paid for it. Very poor design as far as being able to take it down to clean it etc. I *believe* mine was pretty reliable, I don't recall any problems with it not firing when it was supposed to. The trigger was horrible and pretty much non-fixable.

Recoil was surprisingly higher than what I would have expected, too bad since part of the reason for getting it was for my then 10 year old daughter - she hated firing it due to recoil.

It's other big weakness was the single stack magazine due probably to the AWB then in place.

I sent it back to HP due to a part missing, they sent it back within two weeks with a free magazine and didn't charge me a thing. This was over 11 years after I bought it.

Bottom Line: Poor design horribly executed, at least for the late 90's versions, from a company with excellent customer service.

The only issue I've had with mine is that the small set screw that held the front sight in place worked loose (but to be fair that was after about a thousand rounds were sent down range, not counting the spills me and the 995 had taken on uneven rocky ground over the years)

other than the front sight being lost the weapon is still in working order, much like the day I bought it.

I liked the 4595 I fired. It was the first gun my brother ever fired too. I'm thinking of getting one for my next gun if I can resist an SKS or a Mosin.

Just picked up an extra stock for my Hi-Point 995. Got my Dremel, files, epoxy, and a bunch of different 9mm high-cap mags.

    It's Bubba time!

-And I'll still have an intact stock, just in case the operation is a failure.

I bought one several years back for my wife to use for home defense. It was ugly as sin, but shot very well. I ran all kinds of cheap ammo through it and never had a problem (several thousand rounds). It was actually a fun little gun, and it was one that my kids, nephews, and a lot of my friends all wanted to shoot when we went out to target practice. I ended up getting rid of it when my wife started shooting a pistol and got her CHL. A buddy of mine wanted it for his wife!
Not all problems can be solved by shooting the heck out of them..... Well most can, and if not then high explosives can really be your friend!

If you can't do something smart ........ do something right!

    I just got a NIB 995TS.

It comes with rails, sling, swivels, and adjustment tool.

    It has a shock-absorbing stock.

Not that it's my cup of tea, but it has a tacticool look.

The Manufacturer gives an unlimited warranty.

The company is based in Ohio, it's all- American product.

15 round mags are currently available.

Mine shoots well, is light, and gives very little recoil.

You may find your LGS has a back-order for them...

I can't offer any opinions of the Hi-Point pistols, not sure I've ever even held one. But I have a 4095 carbine and two 995's, and they're great fun to shoot! Very accurate and reliable, and ugly as hell. Never any problems with them, outstanding warranties and customer service, but they're just not meant to be pretty. They're meant to shoot accurately, reliably, and affordably, which they do very well. I wouldn't hesitate to use any of them for social work. The .40 can handle some pretty hot loads with ease.

These carbines are the dawn of a new day at Hi-Point.

    I wonder if they'll start making a bolt-action, or scout? I'd

    try one...
