We all need something to believe in. The reliability and simplicity of Mr Browning's sidearm gives some credence to the idea that man is capable of tapping into the fact that we are made in God's image.

Perhaps this is the place to share a story from my childhood. (Quiet JD, I'm an adult!) Once on a trip to Notre Dame with my uncle one of the good fathers lovingly suggested to my uncle he put his rifle out of sight as the implement of war had no place in a place of peace, learning and Christian fellowship.

I remember my Dad saying under his breathe, 'watch the <animal by-product hit the fan> now. But instead of a scene my uncle just leaned against the fender of his truck and said- Are you sure Padre? That old rifle has made more poor sinners see the error of their ways than all of your order's sermons put together....

The situation pretty much went downhill from there.

If total government control equals safety, why are prisons so dangerous?

    Pleez.

Wine vs. beer. Smokey Islays vs. sweet Speysides. Redheads vs. blondes. Polymer vs. steel and walnut.

You can make an exclusive choice. But wisdom suggests--even if you have a favorite--appreciating both.

Well, what passes for wisdom with me.
Guns, if they have a moral dimension, are good. Without guns, the strong can always dominate the weak; the many can always dominate the few; and men can always dominate women. A gun gives each person an agency equivalent to his (or her) moral standing. In my humble opinion, those who teach correct and proper gun use are doing G-d's work.

My sympathies, may the affliction be short lived and you regain your senses soon. I trust you will have a complete recovery.

The more I shoot it, the more I like it. *sigh*
Shooting full power 10mm loads was no problem, and boxes of normal 200 gr FMJ was just fun.

My 1911 still carries easier - and is easier to shoot accurately.

I guess I've got more soul searching to do

According to the media, Glocks are used in 94% of all handgun crimes.

And speaking of questionable statistics, my informal research indicates a disproportionate number of CPL-holding citizens who get involved in shootings are packing some type of 1911 ...
    Will

Everything I know about cops, their respect for the citizens of this country and its Constitution, as well as the state of policing in this country ... I learned from the Internet.

There is nothing wrong with utility and function. Just make sure to carry that 1911 from time to time, take it out and shoot it.
I think we read too much 'identity' into product choices, and don't think for a minute that we all haven't been classically conditioned to associate certain traits with certain products.

Buy the gun the fits your hand and you can shoot accurately.
