    Exclamation Not to self:

Don't let random 4 year old children play with your carry gun in public places.

FAIRBANKS — A revolver went off in the hands of a 4-year-old boy who was playing with it Sunday in a South Fairbanks pawn shop, according to Fairbanks police.

I won't even try to describe just how much this story frightens and upsets me!

Speaking of stupid, I just noticed that I misspelled "note" as "not" in the title.

It's not clear in the article how the 4 year old got the gun. The mother was apparently tending to an infant, and (perhaps) the child snatched the gun from her belt as she was bending down. If that's the case it's more like careless and unfortunate rather than reckless endangerment. A mother will tend to focus on her baby to the exclusion of other things around her - I know that's sexist, but true all the same.

    Wow! Yup, stupid!

As the mother of the four year old, I would like to thank eveyone for their concerns regarding this incident. It could have turned out alot worse. I am thankful both children involved are alive and well. The one thing I do want to clarify is the actual facts. The toddler had the gun behind the counter for about 3 &1/2 minutes. The mother was texting on her phone when her son grabbed the gun. The child ran around the counter and placed the gun in my son's hand. My four year old raised the gun up above his shoulder and the gun went off two inches from his ear.

The distracted Dallas cop who let Jack Ruby walk down the garage ramp on Sunday,November 24,1963 did worse.

    Somebody died there.

Now in my state , the parents would be in jail and the kids would be in foster care if that happened. I dont understand why nobody was watching their kids close enough to notice they were carrying around a loaded gun?
