We have all seen the TV show about the dumb criminals. I always thought some of that was probably exaggerated. I mean no one could be that dumb.... but apparently there are some really dumb criminals out there.

The worst one I heard was a drunk driver who was looking for a drive through to get a hamburger. He pulled up to the speaker at the gated entrance to the jail, and of course they "let him in".
I can actually believe that it was intended as a joke -- spectacularly stupid, but intended as a joke none the less.

Most criminals are not very intelligent and that's why they get caught.
Some are of limited means to begin with but a lot further reduce their potential through the use of alcohol or drugs.
There are intelligent criminals out there but you rarely hear about them because they don't get caught nearly as often.

They often spend thousands or millions of dollars for you to hear about them - in hope that you will vote for them

One of the downfalls or our corrections system is that criminals go to prison to be educated in crime. It is almost like college for crooks. Criminals share their trade secrets to better each other at their profession.
