Sikh temple shooting will disappoint gun prohibitionists

On NPR they were discussing why this would be domestic terrorism and felt it was simply a way to get the help of the FBI - which is the very best reason not to call something domestic terrorism. I, on the other hand, think that the criteria for calling something domestic terrorism is the proximity of the event to election day

Cogito me cogitare; ergo, cogito me esse.
In addition to the gun-related stuff in the article, the other thing that really rustles my Jimmies is the whole schtick of the shooter had "military training." O'l boy was a Missile Technician and then a bit later Psychological Operations. He was a POG just like me. And he served during the height of the Bosnian Conflict...meaning he sat behind a desk. Not exactly a hardened warrior. But of course, the Military turned him into this monster...sure. Not to mention he was kicked out of the Army. More than the war on guns, watch the Media. If anyone spent any time in any branch of the military and commits any crime, they turn him into a violent deranged PTSD-ridden monster.

i thought it was because he was a vet. a skinhead vet is a pertinent detail

QUOTE=Aaryq "Not to mention he was kicked out of the Army."
Kicked out? Would this necessarily mean "Dishonorable Discharge?" If so, wouldn't that make him a prohibited person?
I'm not really knowledgable about nitty-gritty administrative military stuff like that. BTW, what's a "POG?"

See this article,Terry. Page received a "General" discharge, not a dishonorable. Therefore his gun rights were still intact. Even Lee Harvey Oswald, after defecting to Russia, did not not receive a dishonable, but was given an "undesirable" discharge. And that was given by the USMC Reserve, not the USMC.
Little nuances make big differences in the future of the person discharged. Medical discharges are also in the mix.

POG:(Newser) – More is emerging on suspected Sikh temple gunman Wade Michael Page: The white supremacist and former Army soldier was demoted in rank and discharged in 1998, the LA Times reports. A military official didn't say why Page received a general discharge rather than an honorable one after 6 1/2 years of service. But a dishonorable discharge would have stopped him from buying the 9mm handgun he purchased July 28, picked up July 30, and used days later in the shooting, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.

1) People Other than Grunts (US Army Infantry) or 2) Permanently On the Ground (US Air Force, US Naval Aviation and US Army Aviation).
A POG sits cluless while Operators execute the mission.
