Gottlieb (and me) on public television 8/6

    It's all Hollywood...

Public Matters program Monday evening targets guns

Public television stations in Seattle and Yakima will air a one-hour program Monday evening that looks at gun control and gun rights from both sides, with appearances by Alan Gottlieb, founder of the Bellevue-based Second Amendment Foundation, KOMO commentator John Carlson, State Sen. Pam Roach and this columnist.

I can't watch anymore, Dave. Ralph Fascitelli is a horse's behind. This is just too painful. I'm calling it quits after nine minutes (of course, I've DVRed the show, show if I'm feeling particularly masochistic - and incredibly bored - I may return to it someday).

Everything I know about cops, their respect for the citizens of this country and its Constitution, as well as the state of policing in this country ... I learned from the Internet.

Well, then, you missed the best part.

I watched the entire thing online HERE (56 minutes long).

One of the better shows I've seen, as you didn't have all the yelling back and forth as seen on most other shows on guns.

'Course, the antis are still throwing out the same talking points that are bunk (buying guns over the 'Net, etc), but the pro 2nd side made some good points, particularly John Carlson - he pointed out that all this talk of mental health issues is being laid at the gun owners' feet, but if you want to take up this issue, you're going to have to do so with civil rights activists within the mental health community (50:23 mark).

He also pointed out (42:50 mark) how young repeat offenders are not being taken seriously, and are repeatedly put back out on the street.
You'll also note the politician that follows him tells why - it's all about the cost of doing so.

    And on a related note?

I happened upon Mancow on FOX Saturday night - a bit different for FOX, as it seems they have three from the left going up against one from the right (the host).

What really makes you want to beat your head against the wall is when the folks on the left-leaning panel start talking 'bout armor piercing bullets, automatic weapons, and taking down aircraft, Mancow should have stopped them and taken issue with each point. Instead, he just falls back on the "I should be able to buy anything I want" etc. line.

If we keep allowing the other side to throw out armor piercing bullets, automatic weapons, and now, taking down aircraft, we've given them a big leg up on the debate by the clueless tuning in.

Well, being Mancow, I didn't expect too much, but I'd have thought he could put up a better argument than he did - he must not be a gun owner or know very little about the issue past 2nd Amendment yes/no?

How many guns are ‘too many?’

Monday evening’s KCTS airing of Public Matters, Guns: Control, Safety and Rights, is already creating an interesting discussion among Northwest gun rights activists, one of whom raises an interesting question based on remarks from panelists on the program.

How many guns are too many? If the gun grabbers ever do tell you what (positive) number is the upper limit, wouldn't they be arbitrarily limiting my civil rights when I want the first gun to exceed their limit? But how many think that they care about civil rights?

How many guns are ‘enough?’ Gun control show replay airs

Tonight and again on Aug. 26 and 28, KCTS in Seattle and KYVE in Yakima will re-broadcast the eye-opening Public Matters program “Guns: Control, Safety and Rights” featuring Bellevue’s Alan Gottlieb and this columnist.

OMG. Did Ralph Fascist actually suggest the CHL holder in Tucson "nearly ran around the corner and shot someone"?

He never drew his weapon, of course, specifically because he knew it would not help the situation. Instead, he helped subdue the animal.

What a lying sack of bovine excrement. Why, after 51 years, am I shocked when statists lie through their teeth?

Okay raise your hands if you feel less guns make you feel safer....Now how did I know which panelists were going to raise their hands?

Nice target Dave, me thinks they should have given you more air time but you didn't have that fancy salon hair do or the manicured hands. Oh well maybe next time they will do it on radio.

I would love to hear the same type of show done on the Joy Cardin or Kathleen Dunn show but they are WPR and I don't know how much national exposure that would get you guys. I think either one of them would have been a better moderator.

Methinks they gave me enough to establish that I'm not just some talking head...I pull a trigger.

That was a pretty good target, wasn't it? I autographed it for the film crew with: "THIS is "gun control"
