Cloudy thinking? Colorado 8-year-old in trouble for gun picture
As the Memorial Day holiday weekend looms, KVI’s John Carlson spent part of Friday morning’s early drive time talking about a report from Colorado’s KKTV News about an 8-year-old elementary school student who got in trouble for going outside, looking at clouds and drawing something from his imagination, in this case the crude outline of a pistol.

Let's see if I have this right. The kid was assigned to draw what he imagined. He did so, and got in trouble for it.
I think we all believe that the solution is to fire the teacher and the administrator(s) that brought this on. I won't be holding my breath until that happens.
I think it's time to start sloganizing:
"Zero Tolerance = 100% INTOLERANCE. Intolerance = Hate Speech. Thus, Zero Tolerance = Intellectual Fascism!"
Seems to me that there is a high correlation between those that claim to be "tolerant" and those that want "zero tolerance" policies.
I remember as a kid making doodles of battle tanks and attack helicopters on the edges of my notebook while in class. One of my first computer animation programs was of a tank moving across the computer screen shooting its cannon, I handed that in for a class assignment. I'd bring Transformer toys to school to show my friends, and they had little plastic guns in their little plastic hands. I even brought a life size toy gun to school, it was a lever action toy rifle that would make a POP when cocked and the trigger pulled. The only time I had someone from school call home was after I punched a bully in gym class.
This "zero tolerance" nonsense was from a public school, right? I'm not a fan of public schools, they give the government the opportunity to teach the next generation to be good little minions. The get to teach children to keep their head down, keep quiet, do as you are told, don't question, don't think... I just realized how close what I typed is to that opening line by River Tam in the movie Serenity.
"Where not telling them what to think, We're just trying to show them how." That sentence just about sums up the evil that is behind public education.
You can have free speech or you can have income taxes but you cannot have both.

The proper role of schools has NEVER been to teach children to think, all the way back to the introduction of Prussian indoctrination methods into the US in the 1840's by Horace Mann. However, I'll grant you that is what the propaganda says the role is. People would be wiser to ignore propaganda and get to the reality of things.
