60 Iconic Moments From the 1960's

It will bring back many memories to everyone over 55. And some history for the "youngsters" here.

Photo #2 touched me. I lived in Greensboro, NC every summer from 1949 to 1958 with my much older sister and her husband.

That downtown Woolworth was one of my favorite hangouts. Who could ever imagine how our Southern world would be changed by this incident in February, 1960?

Interesting photos, however, virtually no context is presented.

What were, in fact, the major accomplishments of the 1960s....

    1. Despite strong democrat opposition to civil rights acts passed in the 1950's, the democrats were able to convince minorities that they are the party in favor of civil rights, a position that continues to benefit them.

    2. Triumph of engineering...the Apollo Space Program. Nerdy white men demonstrated their abilities. Could we send men to the moon today? The engineers that accomplished the moon landing have retired, and I seriously doubt if new engineers have been trained in their place (hard to get good engineers to work in a program with no actual goals).

    3. LBJ's great society (aka the social safety net) accomplished in 50 years what centuries of slavery were unable to accomplish. It has effectively destroyed the black family. Currently over 70% of black kids are born to families without fathers. Society really can't repair the damage caused by not having a father around.

There is a Johnny Dollar that occasionally shows up at AmericanThinker.com.

    A long lost relative, perhaps?
