    Question Headstamp mystery

I've got some brass I can't identify--I've run web searches, checked a few headstamp indexes, and I can't find anything anywhere. Here's how the case is stamped:

    SPCUM<------top

    357 MAG<------bottom

It's nice looking brass. Anyone know?

Especially if he found it in Kalifornia. Suspicious. The Canuks are scouting for an invasion.

I saw that, too, but I can't believe the Montreal Police Dept would have their own ammo. Also, it's unlikely they'd be shooting 357 Magnum, right?

    Have? No.

    Had? Quite possibly.

You don't specify how old this brass is. I've got, somewhere, some S&W headstamped .357 mag ammo. S&W didn't make it, of course, it was rebadged something or other. Didn't NYCPD have their own headstamped .38 or 9mm at some point or another?

You best bet is to try the general forum asking any (former or current) Quebecers if the Montreal city cops ever carried .357s.

Probably every police department in the world has issued .357s at some point. IIRC, the mounties were issued .38s (with Federal +P 158 gr LSWCHP) up until a few years ago, when they finally switched to .40.

S&W ammunition was manufactured by Fiocchi, and was offered in many calibers that they didn't make firearms for.
